More Gloom and Doom?

Here's my first illo to see the printed page in 2010. It's another job for Dan Trombetto at Folio:. This is in the current issue and is with a story on the less-than-sunny outlook for regional publications. We may be in a new year, but at least for the time being we're still dealing with more of the same from 2009. Let's hope it turns around soon.

Dan was looking for clouds rolling in over a cityscape. Here are the sketches:

  1. Our local papers are all actually doing pretty well. In fact, Portland just began publishing a new daily paper about 6 or 8 months ago.

  2. Interesting...How is the new paper's content? Is it better than the Press Herald/Telegram? Have they figured out the web? (Most papers are pretty bad at that)

I don't think print will every go away completely, but we're living through the pains of a shift in the way we consume our news/entertainment. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out.

  3. You have great concepts. I always find that to be the hardest part. Maybe that's why I gravitated away from editorial work.
